Finally, a creative outlet for myself, just in time for my first quarter-century on earth. Fashion, friends, the life of the single girl and hilarity to follow.

Dolphins = good luck
Today I went kayaking with some friends. There were three dolphins, two adults and baby that swam around us in the water, then we paddled alongside them down the river for a good 45 minutes. It was rather a good way to relax and realize that I shouldn't be sweating the small stuff...I think everything is going to work out with my move and new job...I think the dolphins were good luck, I came home to a message asking for a job interview at the place I had applied at...yesssssssssss.

...?
Somehow I am missing more blogs than ever...I guess I am getting confused with my work schedule and writing at 1am when I get home from work?? Who knows. The other night before work I went to get coffee. There is a man that is always downtown, older, maybe homeless, that everyone knows. He was downtown and he saw me in my work scrubs and asked if I worked at the hospital. I replied that yes I did and then in the middle of the sidewalk, with people all around, be proceeded to announce that he was bipolar and had been in the ER numerous time and had back surgery, and he was so proud of the fact that he was bipolar he kept announcing it. Then he told me all about his therapy at the mental health outpatient clinic. People were staring. I just smiled and nodded and finally got away, but it was good reiteration to never let any strangers know I am nurse. I first learned this on a plane ride from Savannah to Philly, when the man next to me asked what I did and upon hearing I was nurse, gave me his entire medical history and all the details about his new onset diabetes. From now on I am just going to say I am an exotic dancer. That will stop people from asking questions.

Eeeeeeeeewwwwww
Is it weird that at work when I have to hold/carry young children I have started putting gloves on and holding them out at arm's length?
There is no book in the Bible titled "Igor" is there? He isn't in there between the disciples or was recently added on? I swear I saw a plate with a bible verse on it and I could have sworn underneath it said "Igor 4:18" or something...probably another YODA 101.
The cheesecake was a hit, I almost didn't take it because the graham cracker crust was a little "extra done" if you know what I mean, but no one seemed to care and I was told it was "slap yo mama" good. There were only a couple pieces remaining at 1am and I got it out around midnight, so that is pretty good.
I have been following the Ben Travoto Blog online obsessively, bentravatoblog.com it is a place for up and coming fashion photographers to post their work. Seeing as how I love fashion AND photography it is right up my alley. I don't understand why anyone thinks models that look sick or like they are on drugs or really really mad are super "edgy" and "high fashion". I like the people that look happy and healthy and beautiful with the clothes that make you sigh and swoon. Right now my favorite is Sea Child by Kait Robinson. Love love love, especially the sea child one. After seeing the photos from Sea Child by Kait Robinson... I want to roll around in the sand and surf with a sea shell crown!!! Chalk it up to my love of The Little Mermaid. The photos are absolutely gorgeous and the clothes really are nothing spectacular, but I want to wear everything and go to the sea. Now.
Speaking of sighing and swooning, please check out these dresses I found. I kind of love them. Maybe I should become a model in Japan, that is where these dresses are big, I looked into them...thank goodness for Google translate. (Even though it wasn't 100% I could still figure out what they meant, ie "Eyes will be glued all over you on this dress") I don't know what anyone would do back home if I showed up in one of these, but they are fun!!! If I had a million dollars I would put on an Alice in Wonderland themed party and all the girls would wear these dresses. I should have been an event planner.

It's technically a "new" day...
So I just wrote my blog for yesterday an hour and a half ago, but after midnight it technically is a new day, so I can post Sunday's blog now. It is 1:01am here in case you were wondering.
I am in a funny mood, maybe my Midol was laced. All these songs on Ray LaMontagne radio on Pandora right now are just so deep. I think I am just highly emotional. When I get like this, once a month, I cry easily. Anything and everything triggers tears: hitch-hikers, letters from home, birds that run into windows, loud noises, stranded horseshoe crabs…
The other day I thought about putting my retainer in the dishwasher to get extra-cleaned by the high-temperature heat element it (the dishwasher) has, but then I thought it might melt a little and make my tooth-alignment off and before I knew it my teeth would shift and look like one of those sets of hillbilly teeth you can buy at Halloween and in joke stores. Besides hillbilly teeth and robots, I am also scared of never finding someone to love forever. I am scared of settling. I am scared of not having enough time. I am afraid I will never have children. How do you live in the “now” and have anything left over for tomorrow?? How do you have wings and roots? What is my relationship with God? Can monkeys really not swim? So many questions…pretty confident that is a sure sign that it is time for bed.
NY cheesecake!
I made a cheesecake tonight. One of the techs in the ER has saved me countless times from certain aspects of patient care (when I am dry heaving just too much to function) so I asked him what I could make for him in return and he said cheesecake, so tomorrow, he gets cheesecake. It is plain, New York style cheesecake and it smells delicious. I got the recipe from a cooking aficionado friend of mine, and am expecting great things. It's times like today, when I was preparing the cheesecake, that I am thankful for facebook chat, because I was able to instantly ask her questions and get the recipe clarified. Pretty nice when one of us is in the swampy South and the other is in Alaska, looking at Russia from her house ; ). Somehow when she first emailed me the recipe none of the t's, l's, f's or some of the i's came across and the formatting was all wonky, so it was touch and go there for a little while. I bought some fresh berries to have with it...I hope the tech is as excited as I am.

Both feet on the ground
Last night I was feeling all grown-up and sophisticated at a dinner sponsored by a pharmaceutical rep, enjoying my foie gras demi glazed sirloin looking at clinical studies and placebos vs. dosages, and I even knew which fork to use at the right time, but then I had to go to work and got patient spit and blood on me and was berated by a man with dried food on his face for 10 minutes and had to listen to all the gory details about a 300lb woman's rash, so it all balanced out.

Blueberries are ripe!
I am going to pick blueberries next week. Don't act like you are not jealous. I have never picked any kind of berry before and am a little excited. I don't even like blueberries but feel like it is imperative that I have the experience of going out with a pail and picking some. Maybe I will give some to the homeless people between here and Savannah. Or make muffins! I like blueberry muffins. Good idea. That is what I will do.
Last night I was in triage again but it wasn't nearly as entertaining or educational as the night before. My favorite is when patients try to hit on me when I am asking about their health history. Honestly guys, me taking your temperature and asking about your medical problems is NOT me flirting with you. And, if you have the time and soundness of mind to flirt, (or attempt it at least), you most likely do not need to be in the ER in the first place. When I first started I had to make-up and entire family and wore a ring on my left hand, but the ring kept getting caught on the non-latex gloves. I still have the make-believe family to pull out in case I need it though. You might think this sounds like I am bragging "oh, I get hit on all the time", but I assure you this is not the case. It is either the creepy crackhead, the 60-year old with no teeth or clothes, or the 30-something that wears Sesame Street pajama pants 24/7 and still lives with his mom. Not flattering in any aspect whatsoever.
